Korean-American singer and performer Sunny, whose full name is Susan Soonkyu Lee, is based in South Korea. She is best known for being a part of Oh! GG, the second subunit of the K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation.On May 15, 1989, Sunny was born in Orange County, California. She is the youngest of three children, and SM Entertainment’s founder Lee Soo-man is her uncle. Early Life And Career
Sunny was given the English name Susan Soon-kyu Lee after she was born as Lee Soon-kyu in Orange County, California, in the United States.
She has two older sisters, Lee Eun-kyu and Jin-kyu, who also share her birthdate, and a father named Lee Soo-young. Sunny’s uncle is Lee Soo-man, the man who founded SM Entertainment. When Sunny was a baby, her immediate family went to Kuwait. When the Gulf War broke out, they migrated to South Korea, where Sunny grew up. Sunny developed a phobia of loud noises as a result of her brief experience of living during a war. Her father, who played in a band in college, inspired her to pursue a career in singing.
Sunny joined Starlight Entertainment in 1998 and worked as a trainee there for five years before moving on to Starworld. She was supposed to join the Sugar pair female group, but Starworld went bankrupt and couldn’t afford to pay for the group’s debut. After a successful audition for the company and several months of training, Sunny was referred to S.M. Entertainment in 2007 by the singer Ayumi. Sunny adopted her stage name because she thought her birth name sounded like an old woman’s and later that year made her debut as a member of the girl group Girls’ Generation.
Sunny joined the Korean pop girl group Girls Generation as the main vocalist after only a few months of training with SM Entertainment. On August 5, 2007, the group made their debut and quickly rose to fame both in South Korea and abroad.
As a solo performer, Sunny has contributed to a few soundtracks, singing the songs “Your Doll” for the SBS drama Oh! My Lady, “Finally Now” for IPTV’s Story of Wine, and “You Don’t Know About Love” for the SBS drama Working Mom. She sang a duet with Taeyeon on the song SarangInGulYo for the Heading to the Ground soundtrack, and she also sang Motion with the group’s vocal line. Along with Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, Leeteuk, Ryeowook, Sungmin, and Donghae and other group members Seohyun, Sooyoung, Jessica, and Taeyeon, she took part in the S.E.O.U.L. song project. In the song “I Love You, I Love You” from her debut solo mini album, Miryo A.K.A. JoHoney, Brown Eyed Girls’ Miryo featured Sunny.
Sunny and Henry, two other SM Entertainment labelmates, released the single “U&I” on September 15, 2017.
