South Korean singer, composer, record producer, actor, and businessman Lee Seung-hyun was also a performer. Seungri gained notoriety in the mid-2000s as one of the three vocalists and the youngest member of the South Korean boy band Big Bang, which later went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands in the world and one of the best-selling digital groups of all time in Asia. Seungri left Big Bang on March 11 and announced her retirement from the entertainment business after getting entangled in several legal disputes.
He was charged in 2020 during a police inquiry into the Burning Sun affair, but the investigation revealed he was unrelated to the incident. Both cases in the Chat Molka case were entirely unrelated to the original offence for which he was brought to trial. His initial case mostly focused on illicit money exchange, gambling, and allegedly procuring sex services for others.
On September 16, 2020, Seungri’s military trial got underway. He refuted 8 of the 9 counts against him, admitting only to breaking the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act. On August 12, 2021, a military court condemned Seungri to three years in prison and a punishment of 1.15 billion won (970,000 USD). The defense produced evidence of political interference in the case, police misconduct during the inquiry, and altered texts presented by various media outlets that contributed to the case’s confusion and continued public pressure. Despite having all the testimony in his favor and no proof of the offenses for which he was being punished, the military court rejected his appeal of the punishment, according to the legal documents.
Seungri finished serving his time in prison in February 2023 and was then allowed to leave. He has since kept a quiet profile around his loved ones and close friends.
