Yoona was born in Seoul, South Korea, on May 30, 1990. Together with her older sister, she was reared completely by her father. Yoona was selected in the 2002 SM Saturday Open Casting Audition and started acting, singing, and dancing classes with the other students at S.M. Entertainment.
She spent five years training with SM before joining and making her debut with Girls’ Generation.
