T.O.P, also referred to as Choi Seung-hyun, is a South Korean rapper, singer-songwriter, actor, and music producer. One of Kpop’s most recognizable rappers, he is adored by admirers and even famous people from all eras. He became well-known after making his debut as a rapper with the renowned boy band BIGBANG.
Together with his bandmates, the established themselves as one of the most successful boy bands worldwide and among the best-selling groups of all time in Asia. T.O.P and G-Dragon teamed up in 2010 while the group was on break to record and release their number-one collaborative album, GD & TOP. The two digital singles “Turn It Up” and “Doom Dada” were both released by him as a solo artist in 2010 and 2013, respectively.
Following a report from Han Seo Hee, it was stated on June 5, 2017 that T.O.P would be under investigation for marijuana use. He was then moved to a different police division while he awaited receiving a notice of prosecution and would be suspended from duty while his case was being adjudicated.
T.O.P. was hospitalized on June 6 after being discovered unconscious at a police barracks from an overdose of a prescribed benzodiazepine used to treat anxiety. T.O.P’s mother provided confirmation that her kid had opened his eyes and was improving on June 8.
T.O.P entered a guilty plea on June 29 during his initial marijuana consumption trial at the Seoul Central District Court, acknowledging that he did smoke marijuana four times in early October 2016, and was sentenced to two years of probation.
Eventually, the Ministry of National Defense gave T.O.P reservist status and transferred him from the police department so he could finish his required duty as a public servant. On January 26, 2018, he recommenced his obligatory employment as a public service officer at the Yongsan Arts and Crafts Center in the heart of Seoul. T.O.P was then released on July 6, 2019.
T.O.P left the organization after his contract expired, according to a statement released by YG Entertainment on February 7, 2022. T.O.P will remain a member of BIGBANG despite this.
T.O.P confirmed on May 31, 2023, that he is no longer a part of BIGBANG but will carry on with his solo endeavors.
