Early Life And Career
Born on August 18, 1988, Kwon Ji Yong (Korean:???; Chinese:???/???) is a South Korean rapper, singer-songwriter, lyricist, producer, model, and fashion designer better known by his stage name G-Dragon (Korean:????).
He had a contract with SM Entertainment when he was eight years old, but he chose to switch record labels. G-Dragon made his official debut as the leader and one of two rappers for the Korean group BIGBANG after serving as a trainee for YG Entertainment’s record company for six years. Many of BIGBANG’s hit songs, including “Lies,” “Last Farewell,” and “Haru Haru,” were written, composed, and produced by G-Dragon.
Heartbreaker, his first solo album, was released in 2009; it produced the same-named number-one song. The album went on to become one of the best-selling albums of the year, selling over 200,000 copies, and it was named Album of the Year at the Mnet Asian Music Awards.
Major difficulties for the artist were also brought on by Heartbreaker, including claims of plagiarism. G-Dragon and bandmate T.O.P worked together to record and publish the album GD & TOP (2010) after nearly a year of inactivity. Three singles from the album—”High High,” “Oh Yeah,” and “Knock Out”—were released; all three reached the top three of the Gaon chart, with “High High” topping the list.
The successful singles “One of a Kind,” “Crayon,” and “That XX” are all from G-Dragon’s second solo album, “One of a Kind,” which was released in 2012. Coup D’Etat, his second full-length album in four years, was just recently published in 2013.
His selection as one of CNN’s “50 Reasons Why Seoul is the Best City” makes him the sole male.
G-Dragon published a brand-new song called “??GO” in April 2013 on the messaging service LINE. Following bandmate Daesung’s solo concert tour in February, BIGBANG member G-Dragon made his solo debut in Japan. G-Dragon set out on his second international solo tour (his first was with Bi Rain), which featured a four-dome tour of Japan.[2] He started promoting his album Coup D’Etat in September 2013.
