According to a recent survey, 1 in 6 drivers (16%) turn off their car’s heater in an effort to save money on fuel.
According to a survey of 2,000 British drivers conducted by Vitality Car Insurance, 55% of respondents said they strive to lower their fuel use by not driving too fast.
Maintaining proper tire pressure (51%), getting rid of extra baggage (29%), and keeping the windows closed (22%) are further strategies to reduce gas and diesel costs.
Whether turning off a car’s heater will save gasoline is a topic of debate.
If fuel efficiency is a major concern, the RAC asserts that it does and recommends drivers to “dress for the weather even inside your car.”
“Our research indicates that Brits are prepared to do a wide range of things in order to save money, with some even going as far as turning off the heating in their car despite the cold snap,” Vitality Car Insurance managing director Andrew Webb said.
