Unveiling the Earnings of Cyber-Sport Teams: How Much Money Do They Make?

If you’re not interested in cybersports games, you may be surprised to learn just how big they’ve become. In 2021, the e-sports industry was valued at $1 billion, and by 2024 it will reach $1.62 billion.

Let’s take a look at the three richest cybersport teams and find out how they got there.

How do eSports players earn money?

The most obvious way to earn money is to win competitions. Large prize pools are a great way to win large sums of money. But since it’s hard to win all the time, many players can’t rely solely on this source of income.

For financial support, many cybersport players broadcast their games. Fans can donate money during these broadcasts or subscribe to their channels, enabling players to earn more money.

Sponsorship is another source of income. When players or teams are known for their success and gather a large number of fans, large companies like 1win offer sponsorship contracts. The terms of these contracts can be participation in an advertising campaign, the wearing of branded equipment or the exchange of affiliate links with fans.

Merchandising is another way to earn money. When teams have a sufficient number of fans, the sale of branded items – t-shirts, hoodies and the like – begins to bring in a steady income.

The Liquid team

Team Liquid is one of the most successful teams in eSports, with total winnings of $42,095,042.45 from 2339 tournaments. The team has grown from a modest community gaming site to become the richest eSports team in the world.

Her biggest winnings were in the game Dota ($24,959,041.10). She also distinguished herself in games such as Counter-Strike ($5,375,341.35) and StarCraft ($1,679,711.54).

Team Liquid began developing in earnest in 2010, first sponsoring the Dutch team StarCraft: Brood War. That same year, it signed its first professional players for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, and began playing Dota2 in 2012. The team’s growth continued when it merged with Team Curse in 2015.

In 2016, Team Liquid became part of aXiomatic, an entertainment and sports management company. A year later, The Walt Disney Company selected Team Liquid to participate in the Disney Accelerator program, recognizing the team’s development potential.

The jewel in the crown of their achievements is undoubtedly their victory at The International 2017 (TI17), a major Dota2 tournament where they took home $10,862,683.

Team OG

Team OG is another cybersport superstar who has won $37,361,505 in prize money in just 142 tournaments. Their main focus is on Dota 2 – they’ve earned $33,917,126 from this game alone. They also played Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which earned them $876,942, and even tried their hand at VALORANT, with more modest winnings of $10,570.

Team OG started out as Monkey Business before changing their name in October 2015. They quickly became famous as Dota 2 pros and gained worldwide fame at the 2015 Frankfurt Major, where they beat top teams such as Evil Geniuses, CDEC Gaming and Team Secret.

Despite the team’s youth, Team OG’s rapid success is astounding. It has only participated in 50 tournaments, but has already made a name for itself thanks to some impressive victories. It became the first team to win two major Dota 2 tournaments, including Manila Major 2016. What’s more, they won five of the first ten tournaments they entered, demonstrating their superiority in the game.

Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses, also known as EG, is the third most famous cybersport team in the world. They have won a total of $26,445,664 in 946 tournaments. This North American team from San Francisco is best known for Dota 2, where it has won $21,535,682.62. They also did well in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive ($1,112,032.00) and StarCraft II ($785,480.90).

Team Evil Geniuses has quite an interesting history. It was founded by Alexander Garfield in 1999 as a Canadian Counter-Strike team. One of its most successful players, Sumail Hassan, originally from Pakistan, moved to the US when his father found a job there. Sumail joined EG in January 2015, and the team won the Dota Asia championship a month later.

Today, Evil Geniuses is a subsidiary of GoodGame, an agency belonging to Amazon’s Twitch division.

These successful cyber sports teams such as Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid and Team OG can be a great source of inspiration for sports betting and the best place could be Slots City casino and bookmaker.
