The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck the coasts of El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua on Monday in the Pacific Ocean. Local authorities tell Reuters that there have been no initial reports of damage.
The environment ministry of El Salvador said that there was no tsunami threat.
According to a Reuters witness, the earthquake, which had a depth of 77.3 kilometers, was felt in San Salvador, the country’s capital.
Authorities in El Salvador initially estimated the earthquake’s preliminary magnitude to be 5.8.
