The T20 World Cup is soon to begin, and numerous cricket fans are excited to enjoy the event. Some people already consider which teams they will bet on via applications like the Pin Up Bet app, considering they have many choices. This year’s World Cup is one of the biggest, so we will explain the event, upcoming matches, and participating teams.Â
T20 World Cup: First Matches
The 2024 men’s T20 World Cup begins on June 1. The first match will be between the United States and Canada, which is ironic given that the two countries’ rivalry in this sport traces back to 1844. That year, they played the inaugural international cricket match, in which Canada claimed victory by 23 runs in New York.
This year, Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas will host the opening match. The stadium, which originally was a baseball park, has been transformed into a cricket field.Â
Australia will play against Oman in Barbados on June 5 and then against England on June 8 at the exact location. The event’s co-hosts, the West Indies, will play against Papua New Guinea in the tournament’s second match. India will play Ireland on June 5.
Overall, this T20 World Cup is one of the biggest in history, with 20 teams participating compared to 2022, when only 16 squads qualified.Â
Tournament Format, Qualified Teams, and Groups
81 countries participated in the regional qualification process, but only eight teams qualified for the T20 World Cup. The tournaments were held in these regions:
- Europe (32 teams);
- Africa (19 teams);
- Asia (15 teams);Â
- East Asia-Pacific (9 teams);Â
- Americas (6 teams).
The tournament follows the standard format that consists of three stages:
- Initial group stage;
- Super Eights;
- Finals.
For the round-robin first stage, the 20 participating teams are divided into four groups of five each. Each team competes against the other four members in its group, with the top two teams advancing. Victories earn teams two points, while a no-result offers one point. If there’s a tie, a Super Over determines the winner.
Group A matches and the first six Group D matches will be held in the United States, with the remaining four splits between St. Lucia and St. Vincent, and the Grenadines. These are the groups for the T20 World Cup 2024:
Group A | Group B | Group C | Group D |
India | England | New Zealand | South Africa |
Pakistan | Australia | West Indies | Sri Lanka |
Ireland | Namibia | Afghanistan | Bangladesh |
Canada | Scotland | Uganda | Netherlands |
USA | Oman | Papua New Guinea | Nepal |
Once these teams play against their opponents, the top two teams from each group move on to the Super Eight stage. Then, the top two teams from each Super Eight group qualify for the semi-finals. The semifinal stage takes place in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago on June 26 and 27 respectively. Then, there is the last and most exciting stage that most people are waiting for: the Finals. This event is scheduled for Saturday, June 29, in Barbados.
The bottom line is that many are excited about this event, as it’s one of the biggest in cricket’s history. Many bettors already consider their betting strategies while waiting for exciting matches.Â
