7. Estadio Azteca
The Estadio Azteca, which is home to the Mexican national team, Cruz Azul, and Club America, is an iconic picture in Mexico City. The prestige of hosting two World Cup finals – 1970 and 1986 – is one of the key reasons for the stadium’s historical significance. When Diego Maradona scored the memorable ‘Hand of God’ goal against England in the 1986 World Cup, this stadium witnessed one of the most iconic moments in world football.
In addition to hosting a variety of sporting events, including high-level boxing, the stadium has also hosted a number of well-known performers. In 1993, Michael Jackson wrapped off his Dangerous Tour with five sold-out gigs there, while in 2011, U2 drew 110,000 fans. Paul McCartney performed in front of 53,000 fans at the stadium in 2012, and the burial of Mexican comedian Roberto Gomez Bolaos was held there in 2014.
