Investigating Medications – What is Myrbetriq used for?

Myrbetriq is mostly used for OAB (overactive bladder) and NDO (Neurogenic Detrusor Overactivity). Some doctors may also prescribe it for other bladder-related conditions that involve problems with leakage, feelings of urgency and issues of frequency. It has FDA approval. It should start working within four to eight weeks of taking. Here is a closer look.

OAB and NDO

Overactive bladder is a health issue when someone often has a feeling of needing to pee, when in fact, the bladder is not yet full. Sometimes the urge is not something they can control and accidents can happen. Taking Myrbetriq helps with the need to urinate, as well as with wetting issues and too frequent urination. It does this by relaxing the muscle around the bladder and boosting the amount of urine the bladder can hold.

NDO is a condition where the bladder muscle is overly active. This means how much urine you are able to hold before you need to go is a lot lower. There are other situations in which a doctor might prescribe this treatment, if you are leaking and having accidents, taking a lot of trips to the bathroom, or have tried other treatments and have not had any improvement, but these are two of the more common ones.

Dosage types

With a physician’s script, you can get it from a local brick-and-mortar pharmacy or from online pharmacies. You might have 25mg or 50mg pills. Both are extended releases. You can also get it as an oral suspension or liquid, in 8ml amounts. The tablets need to be kept at room temperature as can the liquid but that can only be kept for up to 28 days before it needs to be thrown out. This is not the case for the pills.

Understanding what possible side effects it has

It is important to let your doctor and pharmacist know what other medications you are on so that you do not have any with bad interactions. Some of the more serious side effects of this treatment include;

Urinary retention – Sometimes when you are already on medication for a bladder that is overreactive this treatment might make it so that you are not able to empty your bladder completely. That can also be true if there is an obstruction.

Increasing blood pressure – For some patients this medication can cause your blood pressure to go up. In patients who already have issues with blood pressure this is more likely, and means if your doctor still prescribes it, your blood pressure needs to be monitored for that time.

Allergic reaction – The more common side effect of the medication is having an allergic reaction where there is swelling of the throat, face, lips and tongue and sometimes breathing is difficult. If that should happen go to an emergency room or get medical help right away.

Conclusion
